Two years after he retired, longtime Cardinals organist Ernie Hays has died.

Hays was ballpark organist for St. Louis Cardinals home baseball games for forty seasons.  The team announced his passing on its website November 1.

Hays was also organist for the St. Louis Blues hockey games, for the NFL Cardinals when they were in St. Louis, as well as for professional soccer and college sports teams in St. Louis.

He is possibly best known for his version of the Budweiser beer jingle “Here Comes The King,” which was a staple at every Cards game.

Hays died Wednesday evening, October 31, 2012.  He was 77.
