To raise money and awareness for special Olympic athletes in our area, thrill seekers and dare devils will rappel down all 11 stories of the Hotel Blackhawk in Davenport.

The Special Olympics of Iowa and Illinois joined with the Law Enforcement Torch Run to host the over the edge event which will take place throughout the day from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. on Wednesday, October 31.

The idea is that those stepping ‘over the edge’ will show the courage and strength that Special Olympic athletes overcome everyday to compete.

Participants crazy enough to take to the side of the building and step over the edge were asked to raise 750 dollars each for the cause.

North Scott special needs teacher, Jennifer Unwin will be going over the edge today as her class watches on.  She says she is doing it to let her students know how much people care about them.

In the spirit of Halloween, the participants were encouraged to wear costumes.
