The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers deployed a team of engineers from the Rock Island District to support unwatering efforts in New York.

The team was deployed after New York subway and train systems were inundated with flood water as then-hurricane Sandy made landfall.

The Unwatering Team will help the corps’ New York District drain water from flooded transportation systems and other low-lying areas.

The Rock Island District is also readying pumps in case they need to be deployed throughout the area impacted by Sandy.

The Unwatering Team was specially trained for their tasks in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
