Ag in the AM: Farm Bureau Opposes Transmission Line

Illinois Farm Bureau says it opposes transmission line through the Quad Cities region

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois - The Illinois Farm Bureau says it will oppose a transmission line proposal that would cross through Rock Island, Henry, Whiteside, La Salle and Bureau counties on the way to the Chicago area.

The Rock Island Clean Line is a 500-mile-long high voltage transmission line designed to transport energy from wind farms in Iowa and further west to a conversion station in the Chicago area.

The Farm Bureau formally issued its opposition to the transmission line to the Illinois Commerce Commission.

The Bureau says if the transmission line is approved it wants the company to build smaller single pole structures that follow Interstate 80.

Farmers who oppose the transmission line fear the wires will dissect their farmland and the company will take over their land through imminent domain laws.
