Local college students and staff members took a pledge to avoid texting while driving.

It’s all part of AT&T’s “It Can Wait” campaign.

Black Hawk College student Judah Kennedy says it’s a good way to bring more awareness to the risks associated with distracted driving.

“I know after signing the pledge I’m going to think twice before I do it.  Maybe that thought is on your mind, that ‘maybe I should live up to my word.’”

Depending on your speed, you can travel the length of a football field in the time it takes to lower your eyes to quickly type or send a text message.
