Updated:  A Davenport man is one of two men killed in a Mississippi River boating accident.

David Slater, 50, of Davenport and Thomas Trainer, 42, of Canton, Illinois were identified by the Rock Island County Coroner. 

Slater and Trainer died when the jon boat in which they were riding hit a buoy in the river.  One man was thrown into the water and the other was thrown into the buoy.

Five other men on the boat survived the crash.  Four had serious injuries and were airlifted to Iowa City for treatment.  One man was treated at a Quad Cities-area hospital.

The cause of death for the two men had not yet been determined.  Autopsies were planned for Monday, October 22.

Two people were killed and five injured in a boating accident on the Mississippi River.

A Conservation Officer with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources said it happened just after 6 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2012.

She said seven duck hunters were in a boat accident by Buoy 16 in southern Rock Island County across from Muscatine, Iowa. Five men were taken to Iowa City for treatment.

The cause of death for the two other men was under investigation.
