People in the Quad Cities are helping the homeless by being homeless for a night.

On Friday, October 19th, around 40 people spent the night at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport as part of a new event to bring awareness to homelessness in the Quad City area and raise funds for the Humility of Mary Shelter.

"It was really cold last night and it was rainy and waking up and not having a place to go that's warm and not being able to take a shower is horrible," says Jade Jackson, a student at Davenport Central High School.

"We had it good, because we were locked inside a baseball field, but they are just like under the bridge," says Jocelyn Jackson. "Anything could happen to them and they need more protection."

Organizers say they raised more than $6,000 from the sleep out. They say they plan to hold the event again next year.
