Now there are two more places to charge electric vehicles in our area.
The latest electric vehicle charging units were installed in the short-term parking lot at the Quad City International Airport.
The Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce initiated the move to add the units, which bring the total to six away-from-home charging locations for electric vehicles in the Quad Cities area.
Other locations are at the parking garage near the rock Island City parking ramp, at Lujack Nissan, at Courtesy Car city and at Tri-City Electric.
The U.S. Department of Energy says there are about 4,600 public charging stations across the country.
The airport and Genesis Health System partnered to fund installation and maintenance of the two charging locations at the airport. They can apply for an Illinois rebate program that could reimburse up to half of the installation costs.
A spokesperson for the Quad City International Airport said the organizations will also “provide the electricity without cost for a five-year period.”
Genesis Health system plans to install two more electric vehicle charging units at its new medical building on 41st Street in Moline. The building is scheduled for completion by spring 2013.
