Local 4-H team honored at expo

The Rock Island County 4-H Livestock Judging Team placed first at the Keystone International Livestock Exposition.

The collegiate and junior livestock judging contests were held Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Exposition Center in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Twenty-one collegiate, 4-H and FFA teams from across the country competed in the contest.  The 103 individual contestants judged five classes of cattle, four classes of swine and three classes of sheep. 

Illinois 4-H had the highest-scoring junior team with 2,448 points.  The Rock Island Team had high scores in swine and reasons. 

Team member Tyson Schulte of Milan, Illinois was a top-five individual judge for cattle, swine, sheep and reasons.  Tyson had top individual junior contest honors with 838 points scored. 

Rock Island 4-H was represented by Tyson Schulte and by Dayton Coyne of Milan, Jacob Baker of Prophetstown, Carson Hank of Aledo, Gage Hank of Aledo and coaches J.D. Schulte of Milan and Andy Roth of Eldridge, Iowa. 

The Keystone International Livestock Exposition is the largest livestock show on the East Coast, featuring more than 3,500 animals.
