High school Jello wrestling tradition made public

The Cedar Falls School District is dealing with a controversy that stems from what students say is a homecoming tradition, Jello wrestling at a public park.

A video of last Thursday’s incident was posted online.  It shows high school students wrestling in Jello at the Birdsall Park in Cedar Falls.

Students say 20-different matches were held and each match ended once one girl managed to pull off the shirt of her opponent.

According to WHO-TV, the school district says it had no knowledge of the event, or the tradition.  However, the Cedar Falls Police Department was aware.  The department denied officers were at the event until a photo showing the officers was made public.

Now the police department says three officers were stationed at the event for crowd control.

School superintendent Mike Wells says the event is unacceptable and says he will work with police to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
