Mid-American Energy customers can expect a slight increase on their electric bills starting in January.
The Iowa Utility Board approved a rate increase Tuesday, the second in nine months for Mid-American customers.
This past March, rates were raised four-percent, costing the average customer a little more than two-dollars more per month.
In January, rates will increase another 2.7-percent. That increase will raise the average electric bill around $1.30 per month.
The rate increase comes as the Iowa Utilities Board approved a settlement allowing the additional charge to make up for higher costs of environmental compliance and coal and coal transportation.
