The Chicago Tribune has thrown its endorsement behind one of the candidates vying for the Illinois’ 17th congressional district.

The Chicago newspaper today says it endorses current Congressman Bobby Schilling (R-Colona) over Democratic opponent Cheri Bustos (D-East Moline) in the upcoming election.

The Tribune applauded Schilling for being “willing to make tough reforms” and demonstrating that he “could take a reasoned stand and defend it.”

Bustos was criticized by the paper saying she is “long on promises to protect social safety net programs and short on solutions.”
