Elizabeth man killed in wrong-way crash

A 53-year-old man from Elizabeth, Illinois was reportedly killed when a wrong-way driver hit his car head-on in Des Moines.

A 53-year-old man from Elizabeth, Illinois was reportedly killed when a wrong-way driver hit his car head-on in Des Moines.

WHO-TV reports Kevin O’Sullivan was westbound on Interstate 80/35 at mile marker 134, just west of the Second Avenue exit in Des Moines when the crash happened at about 1 a.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2012.

Brandon Anderson, 25, of Des Moines, was driving his car eastbound in the westbound lanes of the interstate when he reportedly hit O’Sullivan’s car head-on.

Anderson and O’Sullivan were both pronounced dead at the scene.    

The initial police report said Anderson was not wearing a seat belt.   The report did not state whether O’Sullivan was wearing a seat belt.

Westbound lanes of the interstate were closed for more than two hours as police investigated the crash.
