Student Hunger Drive

Today kicks off the Student Hunger Drive, which is an event that collects food for needy families in and around the Quad Cities.

High schools compete to get the largest amount of donated canned goods.

Corporations participate, also.

This year, more than 30 area businesses collected more than 80,000 lbs. of food.

Bullying Awareness Month

Today kicks off Bullying Awareness Month, which runs the entire month of October.

Iowa Governor, Terry Branstad planned a bullying summit for November 27th, after a film featured an Iowa school district in a documentary about a teen who committed suicide after being bullied.

There’s an anti-bullying event planned for tonight from 6-8 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Brady St. in Davenport.

An international expert and former victim of bullying will be there speaking on ways to train students, teachers and families to deal with the effects of bullying.

It’s open to the general public.
