A yard sale in the Quad Cities is helping children in Haiti.

Clothes, house decor, and even bicycles were for sale inside the old "Fireworks" building on the corner of 16th Street and Avenue of the Cities in Moline on Saturday, September 29th.

Lori McKenzie organized the event. She recently visited an orphanage in Haiti and is trying to raise money to help them move to a new location.

A catastrophic 7.0 magnitude earthquake shook the nation's capital in 2010 - killing more than 300,000 people and leaving hundreds of children homeless.

"Kids end up on the street or with families that can't take care of them," says McKenzie. "The average income down there is $1 a day so they cannot support their kids, so they legally sign them off to orphanages to care for them and a lot of Haiti is built on that type of ministry down there."

McKenzie says turnout at today's event was better than expected, so she's going to continue the sale next weekend at the same location.
