UPDATE: Baby Mia found alive, mother arrested

Nearly 12 hours after she was reported abducted, baby Mia Thompson was reported found in Stark County, Illinois.

UPDATE Friday 9-28-12 (6:14 am)

Kendra Meaker will reportedly face a judge today in court. The judge will determine what charges she may be facing in connection with the reported abduction of her 3-week-old daughter.

Stark County Sheriff Jimmie Dison says Meaker admitted to police that she as the person who placed Baby Mia on the side of the road.  Dison said he was not aware of Meaker offering any reason for why she might have put the baby on the side of the road.

Dison also said there was no indication so far that the baby's father had anything to do with the incident. 

Dison said the baby was doing "fine" Friday morning, September 28.

Baby Mia Graci Thompson was found alive on a gravel road in rural Stark County, Illinois.

The Amber Alert was cancelled just before 8:00pm Thursday night, nearly 12 hours after the baby was reportedly abducted from the back seat of a car at the Toulon Post Office.

Police said the baby was taken to a hospital to be examined.

The Stark County Sheriff says the baby was found off of a gravel road near Highway 17 east of the city. That is on the way to the town of Wyoming.

At a news conference held just before 9 p.m., the Stark County Sheriff said baby Mia's mother, 19-year-old Kendra Meaker, was arrested in connection with the reported abduction.

"The child was found alive on a rural Stark County road whether it had either been placed there or dumped by subjects unknown," Stark County Sheriff Jimmie Dison said.

Police are still questioning the baby's father Tim Thompson. He has not been arrested at this time. No word on whether the mother was involved with the incident outside of town.

The baby was reportedly abducted from the back seat of a vehicle. Earlier, cops said they were looking for a woman with brown hair wearing yellow sweatpants in a gold or tan Buick or Pontiac car. As of about 5:15 p.m. Thursday, the Sheriff's department said they were no longer looking for that person. Stark County Sheriff Deputies do not have any person of interest at this time. The abduction happened at 8:10 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2012.

The baby, Mia Graci Thompson, is three weeks old. Police said she was wearing a yellow onesie with a flower on the left shoulder and blue jeans with pink flowers on the cuffs. Mia weighs eight pounds and is 21 inches long. She has brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information about the alleged abduction should call 911 and tell the call taker they have information about an Amber Alert report.
