Police said a Rock Island man who lost his temper with relatives is now charged with killing a woman with his car.
Jeremy Graves, 25, of Davenport, Iowa reportedly went to the home of a family member in the 900 block of 15th Street in Rock Island at about 11 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2012. Police said Graves intended to pick up his child from that home.
When family members refused to give the child to Graves, an argument broke out. The argument eventually moved into the street before Graves got into his car.
That’s when witnesses said Graves drove the car in circles on the road, eventually driving onto the sidewalk and boulevard. Graves’ car reportedly hit a 43-year-old woman.
The woman was taken to an area hospital and later airlifted to a hospital in Iowa City, Iowa where she died.
Police said when they arrived at the scene of the wreck, Graves attempted to leave in his car. He made it around the corner where he reportedly hit a construction trailer. When he tried to run on foot, he was captured by police. Graves allegedly hit one police officer in the face as he was being arrested.
Police said Graves would be charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery, driving under the influence, driving while revoked, resisting arrest and threatening a public official.
Graves was held in the Rock Island County Jail.
The name of the woman who died had not yet been released.
