The streets of Silvis are safer today after an arrest was made for the manufacture of methamphetamine.
From the outside, this duplex in Silvis is like any other. Toys are still laying outside on Wednesday. But inside, it was anything but, police executing a search warrant Tuesday, only to find a meth lab inside.
“It was dismantled, made safe, Silvis fire, Genesis ambulance and the Illinois state police , meth response team came to the house,” says Silvis police chief, William Brasche.
One neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, says they are not surprised something like this happened.
“I thought it was a drug raid, turn out it was a meth lab,” says the neighbor.
Christina Schumacher was arrested for the production of methamphetamine. The neighbor, who use to live above Schumacher thought she was turning her life around.
“Some people get involved and lose control of it,” says neighbor.
The neighbor said they are lucky nothing serious happened.
“I’m glad it didn’t blow up, it could have been a lot worse, it’s too bad, they had little children in there,” says neighbor.
Police said if there was an explosion it would have affected more than just the people living in the Duplex.
“Any meth lab is going to be a volatile situation, and a high fire hazard risk, this particular house had an active meth lab in it which causes any neighborhood to be in danger of fire,” says chief Brasche.
Neighbors say it’s a shame something like this took place.
“I hate to see it happen in Silvis, this use to be a pretty quiet town,” says neighbor.
Police are just glad that everyone is now safe.
“We feel good that this was now discovered and dismantled and that neighborhood is now a safer place with it gone,” says chief Brasche.
Shumacher is currently in Rock Island County Jail.
