After a week of speculation, it’s official – the St. Louis Cardinals announced officially they will not renew their relationship with the Quad Cities River Bandits.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported the Cardinals announced early Wednesday morning, September 19, 2012 they have a new four-year player development deal with the Peoria Chiefs.

It all started when the Chicago Cubs decided to move their Midwest League affiliation from Peoria to Kane County.  Since that announcement, several major league teams have changed Midwest League affiliations.   The Twins also recently announced their move from Beloit to Cedar Rapids.

The move to Peoria resumes a relationship the Cards had with Peoria from 1994 to 2004.  The Cardinals also recently solidified a two-year deal with Class AAA Memphis.

The Cardinals won the Midwest League title in 2011 with the Quad Cities River Bandits.
