With flu season around the corner, the Rock Island Health Department has started giving out the flu vaccine.  The walk-in clinic will be offering shots every Tuesday from 8am to 5:30 pm through October. The flu vaccine is the best form of protection and the health department is encouraging anyone and everyone older than 6 months old to receive the vaccine

The flu shots are $35.  An intradermal option with a minimal needle is available for $40.  Adults and children older than 9 years old can walk-in to the clinic any Tuesday throughout the months of September and October from 8 am to 5:30 pm.  The Rock Island County Health Department will be giving shots to children between the ages of 6 months to 8 years old but ask that they schedule an appointment.

Though the flu shot is the most common, it is not the only shot given at the health department walk-in clinic.  They also provide the Tdap vaccine which protects from tetanus, diphtheria and whooping-cough (pertussis).

There is income-based pricing for the vaccines for those that qualify through the G.I.F.T. Program.  Application for Tdap G.I.F.T. program

In addition to the income based pricing, there are no out of pocket expenses for the flu shot for those with Medicaid or for certain Medicare Part B plans. Most Blue Cross Blue Shield plans are covered as well.
