Davenport Police said a back seat passenger suffered life-threatening injuries when the car she was in crashed into a railroad bridge.

The wreck was reported at 3 a.m. Thursday, September 13, 2012.

Police said Trenton Thornburg, 29, of Blue Grass, Iowa, was driving a Honda Civic westbound in the 1900 block of Kirkwood Boulevard when he lost control.

“The vehicle slide a considerable distance before colliding with the railroad bridge,” said Assistant Chief of Police Donald Schaeffer.

Thornburg and a front seat passenger were treated and released from a local hospital.  Ruth Hoover, who was riding in the back seat, was taken by helicopter ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospital.

Police said their preliminary investigation indicated speed contributed to the cause of the crash and that alcohol was not believed to be a factor.
