The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded a $1.8 million grant targeted to improvements at Quad City International Airport.
The grant will be used to construct a Federal Inspection Services facility in the existing terminal building, so the airport can meet demands for clearing international cargo, passengers and flight crews.
“The Federal Inspection Facility will enhance aviation activity and the Airport Authority is very excited about this improvement,” said Bruce Carter, Director of Aviation at the airport.
The announcement comes on the heels of a separate grant of more than $2.8 million awarded earlier in September 2012 to increase the size of the airport’s snow removal fleet and the facility where that equipment is stored.
Federal funding also paid for rebuilding the airport’s main 10,000 foot runway, which was completed last year.
