A trial is underway for an area man accused of abducting and killing a seven-year-old girl in December 1957.

A trial is underway for an area man accused of abducting and killing a seven-year-old girl in December 1957.

Jack McCullough, 72, was arrested and charged in 2011 with killing Maria Ridulph.  Maria was abducted from her Sycamore, Illinois home in December 1957.  Her body was found the following spring near Galena, Illinois, north of the Quad Cities.

In opening statements Monday, September 10, 2012, prosecutors noted they were working to persuade the judge to allow testimony from inmates who had spoken with McCullough.  Prosecutors said they had little evidence linking McCullough to the crime.
