A 24-year-old man allegedly used an app to disguise his phone number with the number for the Iowa City Police Department.

KCRG reports Thomas Garland of Cedar Rapids, Iowa was arrested Sunday, September 9, 2012 after a woman complained to police that Garland was harassing her by phone.  Garland allegedly sent numerous text messages to the woman in which he demanded she return property to him.  The text messages allegedly included threats of physical harm and offensive language.

When the woman blocked his number, Garland allegedly used an iPhone application to disguise it so he could continue to send her text messages.  The woman’s complaint said Garland used the app to make the Iowa City Police Department’s phone number appear on the woman’s caller ID instead of his own.
