A Burlington, Iowa woman will serve prison time after she was convicted of being involved in a scheme to pass phony payroll checks.

Investigators said Larry’Sha Lawrence, 20, made about $40,000 passing fictitious payroll checks at Muscatine-area businesses.

Lawrence was sentenced in Muscatine County Court Friday, September 7, 2012 to serve up to 15 years in prison after she was found guilty of theft and multiple counts of forgery.  She was sentenced to ten years in prison on the theft charge followed by five years for forgery.

The sentences will be served consecutively to probation violation sentences expected in Henry and Des Moines counties, where online court records show she was already on probation after separate forgery convictions stemming from charges in 2011.

Court records also show Lawrence has court cases pending in which she was charged with forgery in Johnson and Polk counties this year.
