The new trail bridge connecting South Concord Street and Credit Island is now open, giving cyclist, walkers and even those on segways a new path. And it’s all ahead of schedule.
The official ribbon cutting for the 2.2 million dollar project isn’t scheduled until October 22 but city officials are telling people to get out and use it now. Due to the unseasonably warm weather, contractors were able to start work on the span back in December - putting the project ahead of schedule.
The path includes scenic views and connects users to environmental features - such as Nahant Marsh. It will ultimately connect to Wildcat Den State Park in Muscatine County.
Cyclists are to ride with caution because no signage is in place yet. The majority of the multi-million dollar project was paid for with money from a federal grant.
