Iowa doctor faces 8 counts of manslaughter

An Iowa doctor faces manslaughter charges for allegedly playing a role in the deaths of eight patients including a world-famous rock star.

A Des Moines doctor faces manslaughter charges, accused in playing a role in the deaths of eight patients including a world famous rock star.  It’s the first case of its kind in Iowa.

Doctor Daniel Baldi is charged with eight counts of manslaughter, accused of prescribing fatal doses of drugs to eight patients.  One of the patients identified in court records is Paul Gray, founder of the Grammy Award winning band “Slipknot”.   Baldi is accused of prescribing high doses of narcotics to Gray, even though Gray was a drug addict.

“This is unprecedented.” Said Baldi’s attorney, Guy Cook,  “This kind of a case has never been brought in Iowa.  And Dr. Baldi did his best to treat these patients and in spite of his treatment and care some of them passed.  And it’s frankly wrong to turn this into a criminal case.”

A judge entered a not-guilty plea on Baldi’s behalf.  If convicted, Baldi could face up to 16-years in prison.
