7th Avenue closes for school demolition

Crews are scheduled to close 7th Avenue in Rock Island Thursday, September 6, 2012 because of demolition at the former Lincoln School building.

The closure was scheduled for Wednesday, but was delayed because of weather.

The work will close 7th Avenue between 20th and 23rd streets from 7 a.m. to about 4 p.m.

Traffic will be detoured to 9th Avenue and detour signs will be in place.  

In addition to the detour, motorists in the area are asked to watch for trucks going in and out of the construction zone.

Demolition began on the former Lincoln School building August 16, 2012.
