Rock Island holds Labor Day Parade

The 28th Annual Rock Island Labor Day Parade starts at 9:30 a.m. Monday, September 3, 2012.

More than 150 entries are registered for this year’s parade.   Six flatbed bands are part of the lineup, along with marching bands from Alleman and Rock Island high schools, the Black Hawk Pipes and Drums band and the mighty MetroSteppers from the Metropolitan Youth Program at Martin Luther King Center.

The theme of the parade is “What Makes Us Rock?”

The parade route starts at 18th Avenue and 33rd Street near Washington Junior High School.  The parade then travels west along 18th Avenue, turning south on 24th Street, then west on 25th Avenue.  The parade disbands in the parking lots at Rock Island High School.
