Vandals chopped down donated trees that were planted at Sylvan Gateway Park on Sylvan Island in Moline, Illinois.
A man who uses the park every day reported the vandalism Friday morning, August 31.
Three 12-feet-tall swamp oak trees planted over the summer were apparently cut down by vandals late Thursday, August 30 or early Friday, August 31, 2012. The trees were planted along a trail that leads to the bike and walking path on the Sylvan Slough.
It appeared someone used a handsaw to cut down the trees.
A parks department manager said the trees were about eight years old and are worth about $400 apiece.
