Fifty hunters will be allowed to hunt antlerless deer from Scott County Park with permits which become available September 1, 2012.

Permit holders will be allowed to hunt and removed deer in the park during a controlled hunt December 1 and 2, 2012.

The special deer licenses are separate from any other deer license issued, and the special licenses are for antlerless deer only.

To get the permit, you must be an Iowa resident, pass a shooter’s proficiency test and attend hunter safety education conducted by the Scott County Conservation Board.  Fees are paid to the license vendor only after all requirements are met.

Step 1:  Submit Application

Applications are available from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily beginning Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the south entrance station at Scott County Park and at West Lake Park campground office at gate 5.  Completed applications must be mailed or delivered by 4:30 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2012 to Scott County Conservation Board, West Lake Park Gate 3, 14910 110th Avenue, Davenport, Iowa 52804.

Step 2:  Selection

A drawing will be held during the first week of October to select the 50 people needed for the Scott County Park hunt.  Applicants will get written notification whether they are selected or not.  Preferential consideration will be given to youth 12 to 15 years of age and disabled hunters.

Step 3:  Proficiency testing

The hunter safety session and shooting proficiency tests are mandatory for first-time participants.  Each hunter will be required to hit a ten-inch circle three times out of five attempts with a shotgun slug or muzzleloader round at 40 yards.  They are held at 8 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Davenport Police Training Center, 8440 Harrison Street in Davenport.   You must provide your own firearm and ammunition.
