The University of Iowa may be sending mixed messages about responsible drinking.  A new survey was sent out to its students this month asking what they think about the school’s deal with Anheuser-Busch.

Mike Jones is the father of two University of Iowa students and says they not only received a great education but also enjoyed the social atmosphere.  But that social atmosphere is what is in question now that the university has renewed its deal with Anheuser-Busch.  It allows the beer company to put its logo next to the Iowa tiger hawk on its products.

University Vice President for Student Life, Tom Rocklin says "our message is when students choose to use alcohol; we want them to use it legally and safely."

Mike Jones thinks regardless the message; the students must make the right choice.

“I think it will come down to the student’s decision and how they will conduct themselves,” he says.  “Will it encourage any more drinking? I don’t think so.”

The university says the survey will help bring clarity.  So far, about 1,800 students have responded to the survey.
