Preschool locked down during search for alleged bank robber

The search for a man who reportedly robbed Southeast National Bank in Davenport led to a nearby school being locked down as a safety precaution.

The search for a man who reportedly robbed Southeast National Bank in Davenport led to a nearby school being locked down as a safety precaution.

The robbery was reported just after 9:30 a.m. at the bank at 2036 East River Drive.

Police quickly set up a perimeter from River Drive to 13th Street and from Spring to Mound streets.

The Children’s Village preschool and daycare at Hoover School, just south of 11th Street, was locked down so students and staff would remain indoors as a precaution.

"Children’s Village Hoover students were escorted inside the school and the building was on lockdown until approximately 10:15 a.m. The staff acted quickly to ensure the safety of our students," said a spokesperson for Davenport Community Schools.

The suspect reportedly used a small-caliber handgun during the robbery.  No shots were fired.  He reportedly fled on foot after the robbery.   Police said the suspect was caught just after 10 a.m.

Police said the suspect is Ceneca Johnson, 31, of Davenport.  Johnson was on work-release from the Iowa Department of Corrections since June 2012 after he served prison time for a previous second-degree robbery conviction.  Online records show his tentative release date was set for April 15, 2014.
