A Rock Island, Illinois Police officer involved in a shooting has been cleared of any potential wrongdoing.

Officer John Hoyt shot 23-year-old Quintin Clemons Saturday, July 21, 2012.

Clemons allegedly ran from police when they tried to arrest him for an outstanding warrant.   He reportedly pointed a gun at police at the end of the foot chase, and that’s when Officer Hoyt shot Clemons.

Clemons was hospitalized and later jailed.  He was charged with attempted aggravated battery and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

The Rock Island State’s Attorney’s office announced its investigation showed Hoyt followed police protocol in the incident.
