An adaptive water skiing program gave people with disabilities the chance to do something they might not otherwise get to do.

With help from special equipment, volunteers helped handicaps become no obstacle for a group of very special waterskiing enthusiasts.

Volunteers from Genesis, St. Ambrose and Backwater Gamblers helped make the Adaptive Water Skiing day possible Saturday, August 18, 2012.

"There's really nothing like the experience of just gliding on top of the water, just kind of looking around, and just, this is so unique, this is so cool. And to do that, especially for the first time, is quite remarkable,” said Glen Sancken of Waves Ski Clinic.

Skiers are seated in a “cage” with a seat that allows people with cerebral palsy, spina bifida and other ailments to enjoy some fun on the water.

The adaptive waterski clinic is in its eighth year.
