DAVENPORT - Stage crews were still working around 9 p.m. Tuesday in preparation for President Obama's visit Wednesday.
At 6 p.m. Tuesday, crews shut down East 11th and Christie Street. That is where President Obama will be speaking on Wednesday. Crews had to fight the mayflies late into the night partly because of the larger lights they had to use to see.
The President will be speaking at around 5:25 Wednesday evening. The Obama campaign does not have an exact number on how many people will show. They did say Tuesday though they expect "thousands" to come out to "The Village."
At noon Wednesday, all streets within "The Village" will be shut down. However, most businesses will stay open. Streets are expected to open up again after President Obama finishes speaking at around 6 p.m.
Parking is expected to be very difficult later in the day. Davenport Police said Tuesday that "Walking will be necessary" to see President Obama. They also said to, "Car pool if possible."
"I think it's going to be a tremendous hassle," event participant Tim Garcia said. "One of our plans is to park clear up into McClellan Heights somewhere, but it's hard to say."
Many people are expected to follow Garcia into the McClellan Heights neighborhood. Others can take CitiBus Route 14 to get to "The Village" as well. The doors open at 3 p.m. Wednesday, but only if you have a ticket.
