Streets close for presidential visit

Streets will be closed around the Village of East Davenport location President Barack Obama is scheduled to visit Wednesday, August 15, 2012.

A spokesman for the Davenport Police Department said numerous streets will close before noon in the area around East 11th and Christie streets.  The president is scheduled to deliver remarks there at 5:25 p.m. Wednesday.

Businesses will remain open but the intersection and surrounding area will be closed to vehicle traffic starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 14.  Streets within the Village of East Davenport business district will be closed at noon Wednesday.

Traffic will be detoured away from the area until after 6 p.m. Wednesday.

“Motorists who do not have reason to be in the immediate area should seek alternate routes of travel away from the visit site.  Congestion and delays are probable,” the police spokesman said.

Traffic between East Davenport and the Quad City International Airport could also experience delays as the presidential motorcade departs after the event.
