The City of Galesburg, Illinois will tear down a manufacturing plant damaged by fire.

The Hawkinson Manufacturing Plant at Cedar Avenue and Ferris Place was destroyed by fire Tuesday, June 12, 2012.  Heavy smoke from the fire was visible for miles.

Investigators said the fire spread quickly, and that the cause of the fire was still undetermined.

City officials have decided to demolish what’s left of the building and clear the rubble.  They estimate it will take four to six weeks for demolition crews to complete the job.
