DAVENPORT - Mayor Bill Gluba said Tuesday he's been working to help bring President Barack Obama in to Davenport.
President Obama will be in Davenport on Wednesday, August 15. The president will be coming to Davenport from Dubuque.
"I just found that out today," Harkin said. "I don't know the itinerary."
The announcement comes on the same day Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney was in Des Moines. Gluba said he's been trying to bring Obama to Davenport for the past couple of weeks.
"I've been asked to keep things quiet for security reasons," Gluba said.
Scott County is one of the swing counties in Iowa. In 2008, Iowa and Scott County went for President Obama, but Harkin says that doesn't mean the same thing will happen this year.
"Iowa voters take a very close look at candidates," Harkin said. "Just because they voted for you once doesn't mean they're going to vote for you again."
President Obama will visit Council Bluffs and Boone on Monday, August 13. Campaign events follow in Marshalltown and Waterloo the next day.
"President Obama's got his work cut out for him," Harkin said. "So does Governor Romney."
Gluba was very pleased of the announcement Tuesday. Romney made a campaign stop in Davenport on June 18. Now, President Obama has locked up a visit.
"We're always excited to get the President of the United States to the Quad Cities," Gluba said. "It's especially nice when a sitting president comes here."
The Obama campaign has not announced where in Davenport the President will be stopping. It also hasn't announced what time the President will be here. The campaign says it will make that announcement here in the next couple of days.
