One person was killed and several others hurt when a truck drove through the Kalona, Iowa Sale Barn lot during a horse auction Monday morning, August 6, 2012.

KCRG reports authorities believed the truck’s driver had a medical condition which may have contributed to the crash.

The truck reportedly struck several people before driving off the lot and crashing into a tree.  A weekly horse auction was happening at the time of the crash.

Several ambulances and a helicopter ambulance were sent to the crash.

One person was reportedly killed and five people were injured in the crash.  The person who was killed was among an estimated half-dozen people who were thrown from the bed of the pickup in the wreck.

The day after the crash, KCRG reported witnesses said James Greiner 73, of South English was the truck’s driver.  The truck traveled about three blocks at speeds between 40 and 50 miles per hour before it crashed.  Donald Breed, 70, of Freeport, Illinois was on foot when he was apparently struck by the truck.  Breed was pronounced dead at the scene.
