Police say a witness reported seeing a vehicle speeding and weaving in and out of traffic just before it crashed and overturned near LeClaire, Iowa.

The wreck was reported just before 4 p.m. Sunday, August 5, 2012 in the 18000 block of Great River Road/Highway 67 between Riverdale and LeClaire in southeastern Scott County.

Matthew Varner, 22, of Camanche, Iowa was reportedly driving his 1997 Ford Ranger when he lost control in a slight curve on the road.  The Ranger went off the right side of the road and traveled about 170 feet before it rolled over.  The Ranger landed upside down in the middle of the westbound lanes of traffic.

“On scene investigation along with eye-witness accounts showed Matthew to have lost control of his vehicle due to driving in a reckless manner, weaving in and out of traffic and traveling at a high rate of speed,” said a statement from the Scott  County Sheriff’s Department.

Police said Varner was trapped and had to be extricated from the wrecked vehicle.  His injuries were considered non-life-threatening.  Police said Varner was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
