Some area second- through sixth-graders gave their minds a big mid-summer workout at the Engineering Kids camp at the Putnam Museum.

The kids teamed up with professional engineers and students from Iowa State University to program robots as well as to learn construction and engineering techniques.

The goal of the camp is to get kids interested at an early age in science, technology, engineering and math careers.

More than 350 kids participated in the camp projects over the course of one week.
