The man shot by a Rock Island police officer is out of the hospital and in the Rock Island County Jail.
Police said Quintin Clemons, 23, from Rock Island, Illinois, ran from them when they tried to arrest him for an outstanding warrant Saturday afternoon, July 21, 2012.
Police said Clemons was carrying a loaded handgun and that he pointed that gun at officers who chased him on foot. That’s when one of the police officers reportedly fired his service weapon, wounding Clemons in the groin.
Clemons was taken to a hospital in Peoria for treatment. When he was released from the hospital, Clemons was taken to the Peoria Jail and then to the Rock Island County Jail.
Clemons is charged with attempted aggravated battery by discharge of a firearm and with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. His bond was set at $75,000.
Court records show Clemons made his initial appearance in Rock Island County Court July 28. He was appointed a public defender and is scheduled to appear in court again August 7, 2012.
