AURORA, Colo. — The accused gunman from the Aurora movie theater shooting mailed a notebook “full of details about how he was going to kill people” to a University of Colorado psychiatrist up to a week before the attack, according to a report.

Fox News, citing a law enforcement source, is reporting that nothing was done about this notebook because the unopened envelope containing it was not discovered in an Anschutz medical campus mailroom until Monday.

The package was discovered when police and the FBI were called to the campus about a package that was believed to have been sent by James E. Holmes, the suspected gunman. It turned out that package was not sent by Holmes, but an ensuing search of the campus resulting in the discovery of the package.

“Inside the package was a notebook full of details about how (Holmes) was going to kill people,” the source told Fox News. “There were drawings of what he was going to do in it — drawings and illustrations of the massacre.”

The drawings found in a spiral notebook notebook included stick figures shooting other stick figures.

One source told Fox News that the package had been in the mailroom since July 12. Another said the exact date the package arrived on the Anschutz campus could not be confirmed.

Both sources said the professor to whom the package was addressed dealt with patients at Anschutz’s psychiatry outpatient facility, which is located in Building 500 — the same building where the suspicious package was delivered Monday.

The FBI and the Arapahoe County District Attorney decline comment. University of Colorado CU officials said the school was not aware of the package nor its contents.

CU also issued this statement about its mail service Wednesday afternoon.

“The University centrally receives mail from the United States Postal Service. The University then delivers the mail to the address on the Anschutz Medical Campus the same day it is received.  For example, mail delivered on a Friday is delivered on Friday. The University’s mail service is not open on Saturday. Saturday mail is sorted and delivered  Monday morning. The University does not log or track mail/packages unless it requires a signature from the United States Postal Service.”

Citing the ongoing investigation regarding Holmes, a former student at the Anschutz medical campus, CU said it would not comment further about the package or the notebook.
