CARBON CLIFF - Residents are responding to a water conservation notice because of a water well that's gotten below 'normal' levels.

The lower water levels are partly because of the drought the area has been through this summer. One of Carbon Cliff's four water wells dropped below its normal level which prompted the city to ask people to conserve water.

"My tomatoes are going bad," Carbon Cliff resident Katie Erickson said. "My flowers are dying. They were so nice, and now they are all dying."

In the spring, Erickson watered her plants two times a day. Now, she only waters them once every three days because of the hot temperatures. She also says she's not watering them enough because of Carbon Cliff's conservation push.

"The beans are all gone because they need water constantly," Erickson said. "We can't provide it."

Carbon Cliff has two different water well stations. Village well #4 near Orchard Lane and Friendship Farm Road is the one that has below standard levels.

Since July, Carbon Cliff has had a notice up on its website saying that people should try to conserve water. One of the messages on the site asks people not to refill their swimming pools. That is part of the reason why Erickson hasn't gotten into her pool.

"We're not supposed to use a lot of water," Erickson said. "So the pool is a luxury, so you can't use it."

Its website also asks people not to water their lawns or wash their cars. Erickson says she isn't frustrated by the situation, but she also wonders how the water at well #4 got so low.

"Typically we try to keep our plants pretty nice," Erickson said. "But you gotta do what you gotta do."

The village has fixed well #4 since they released its message. Nonetheless, it's still asking people to conserve water until "further notice."
