Police released a recording of emergency radio traffic from an officer-involved shooting in Rock Island, Illinois.
The commander of the Rock Island County Integrity Task Force said there is no squad car dash-cam video of the foot pursuit or the shots-fired incident. The task force is charged with investigating the conduct of law enforcement officers.
Police said the incident began at about 4 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012 when Rock Island Police officers tried to arrest a person who had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear in court.
The suspect then allegedly ran from police, who pursued the suspect on foot.
Police said they reached the intersection of 11th Street and 18 ½ Avenue when the suspect allegedly pointed a handgun at the pursuing officers. That’s when one of the officers reportedly fired his service weapon at the suspect.
The suspect was wounded in the groin according to information from the Rock Island County Integrity Task Force. The suspect’s injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.
A spokesperson for the Integrity Task Force said the officer who shot the suspect is on paid administrative leave from the department.
