Arrest and charges in Amboy murder

A 32-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the death of a 79-year-old Amboy, Illinois man.

The body of Delmar Leroy Daniels, 79, was found in his home at 105 West Main Street early Wednesday morning, July 18, 2012.  A concerned relative,  who went to check on Daniels and his wife, found Daniels’ body.

Daniels’ wife was found in her wheelchair inside the home.  She suffered minor injuries for which she was treated at a local hospital.

Matthew Welling of Amboy was arrested in connection with the case Thursday, July 19, 2012 at a home in the 300 block of North East Avenue in Amboy.

Welling is charged with first-degree murder and two counts of home invasion.  He was held in the Lee County Jail.
