Police say a driver told them his vehicle landed in a pond when he lost control trying to avoid a deer in Des Moines County, Iowa.

The wreck was reported at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012 on Highway 34 at Beaverdale Road.

Brett Marshall Baity, 24, of West Burlington, Iowa was driving westbound when he reportedly swerved to avoid a deer.

Police said Baity lost control of his vehicle, crossed the median and the eastbound lanes of Highway 34 and went off the road.  That’s when he reportedly hit the ditch, crashed through a fence and into a field and drove the vehicle into a pond.

Police said Baity was cited for careless driving, failure to maintain control and driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway.

No injuries were reported.
