More work could be coming to Alcoa's Davenport Works.
Alcoa has signed a multi-year $1.4 billion supply agreement with Airbus. Under the contract, Alcoa will supply Airbus with its aluminum sheet, plate, and hard-alloy extruded products. Davenport Works, as well as a plant in the United Kingdom and Russia, will supply Airbus with its flat-rolled products. Alcoa’s hard-alloy extruded products will be supplied from the company’s plants in Indiana, Maryland, and Germany.
The products are made from the manufacturer's current, advanced-generation and aluminum-lithium alloys and will be used on several of Airbus' planes to make them lighter and more fuel-efficient.
The automobile industry is already working towards that goal and Alcoa is following suit. Right now, workers are completing a $300 million expansion project at Davenport Works to meet those needs. The expansion is creating 150 temporary construction jobs and 150 permanent jobs. It will be finished later this year.
