Woman’s body found in burned Walcott house

The body of an 87-year-old woman was found inside a burning house in Walcott, Iowa.

Emergency crews were sent to a report of smoke coming from a house in the 100 block of East Otis Street Sunday, July 8, 2012. 

Firefighters found the unresponsive woman inside the home.  They got her out of the house and put out the fire.

Investigators said the fire was accidental and appeared to have been caused by a lit cigarette.

The cause of the woman’s death was not yet known.  An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday, July 10.
